Mariners bring back trident caps for Spring Training

February 3rd, 2017

SEATTLE -- As the Mariners move ahead into a new season, the club is going back in its fashion history with a new (old) look on its Spring Training caps for 2017, as the team has brought back its trident logo.
The Mariners are one of seven Major League teams that will be sporting a cap redesign this spring, along with the Yankees, Mets, Indians, Rays, Braves and Cubs.
The caps will be used strictly for Cactus League games, and they are available online at Mariners.com. Early in their history, the Mariners wore the same cap for both spring and regular-season games, but that is no longer the case.
"The Spring Training and regular-season cap was one and the same well into our existence," said Randy Adamack, the Mariners' senior vice president of communications. "The trident was on our caps for four years, from 1977-1980."
The Mariners also wore caps with a trident inside a star on the front for several years during the 1980s.
