BOSTON -- Mark Reynolds was well aware of the fact that he could potentially cross a baseball milestone during the Rockies 8-3 loss to the Red Sox on Tuesday night. All he needed was one hit, and a line drive into center field in the fourth inning earned the first baseman his 1,000th career hit.
"It's pretty cool. I never thought I'd be able to get one hit in the big leagues, so to be able to get 1,000 is pretty neat," Reynolds said.
It was appropriate for the 32-year-old to earn it at Fenway Park, where he's always hit well. Reynolds has 33 hits, 18 runs, 25 RBIs and eight home runs in 32 games in his career here.
Reynolds also took pride in the fact that he recorded one of the five hits given up by Red Sox ace David Price. Entering the game, he was batting .235 with three homers, six RBIs and four walks against the lefty.
"He threw a lot of changeups," Reynolds said. "I've faced him in the past and he'd never throw the changeup, but he was throwing a lot [tonight], especially to me. Early on, in my first at-bat, I was all out of whack. Kind of got me off balance."
Reynolds had a good night, but the Rockies' road trip hasn't been kind to them, as they have now dropped five of their last six games. Colorado's veteran first baseman urged his team to change that.
Being in the game for nearly 10 years, Reynolds knows what it's like to get drawn into the character and history of Fenway Park. Though he relates to his younger teammates' excitement of coming to Boston for some of their first times, he's looking for the Rockies to get back on track.
"I remember my first time coming here, and I don't want to say it's intimidating, but you get caught up in the aura of Fenway Park and the Red Sox, the name on the chest. It's pretty neat." Reynolds said. "I was caught up in that, too, when I was young.
"Just have to get some of these young guys to not worry about that and know that these guys are baseball players just like us. We have to get this one out of the way and get all of the sightseeing done and go out there and play baseball. Try to win."
The Rockies are in third place in the National League West, 1 1/2 games behind the second-place Dodgers and six games behind the Giants.
"The season's still young. A lot of games left to go, and we're right in the mix," Reynolds said. "We just have to get some consistent pitching and some big hits when we're in scoring position to win some games."
