ANAHEIM -- rejoined the Orioles on Tuesday, as expected, with the designated hitter activated from the disabled list pregame as part of several roster moves. He went 0-for-4 in the Orioles' 3-2 loss to the Angels.
The O's also placed on the DL with a lower back injury and recalled from Triple-A Norfolk. They optioned outfielder Joey Rickard after Sunday's game to clear a second roster spot.
Trumbo has been sidelined since Spring Training with a quad injury and made his season debut in front of a home crowd of sorts, as he started his career with Anaheim and grew up just 10 minutes from Angel Stadium.
"I guess this took about as much time as I originally had been told it might. I would have gotten it going sooner than later, but it just wasn't quite ready up until recently," he said. "The assignment [with Norfolk] down in Charlotte went well. I played outfield two of the days and I got tested a number of times and it all checked out."
Vielma gives the Orioles some more infield depth. He is 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in three games with the Orioles. Sardinas was 2-for-18 with a home run in eight games.
