Miami reveals 2022 Minor League managers

January 13th, 2022

MIAMI -- On Thursday, the Marlins announced the managers for their Minor League affiliates for the 2022 season: Daren Brown (Triple-A), Kevin Randel (Double-A), Jorge Hernández (High-A), Ángel Espada (Low-A), Luis Dorante Sr. (FCL) and Nelson Prada (DSL).

Brown joins the Marlins' organization with more than 20 years of managerial experience and 1,200 wins, most recently as the inaugural skipper of the Kingsport Axmen -- the Appalachian League's 2021 Organization of the Year. He has served as a manager at every level, including a 50-game stint with the Mariners in 2010. Brown takes over for Al Pedrique, who is Miami's new infield/third-base coach.

Randel is one of two Minor League managers returning within the Marlins' system. 2022 marks his seventh season as a skipper in the organization and third at Double-A. The Pensacola Blue Wahoos went 57-54 in 2021 with a roster that included top prospects such as Max Meyer, JJ Bleday, Peyton Burdick and Jake Eder.

In his 16th year with the organization, Hernández takes the helm in Beloit from former Marlins first baseman Mike Jacobs. Hernández's Jupiter Hammerheads club finished 61-56 in 2021 following his five-year stint as the Minor League infield coordinator.

Espada's 14th season with the Marlins is a return to the managerial role after two years as Miami’s Latin America field coordinator. He served as the Single-A skipper for five years beginning in 2012, and managed the Dominican Summer League Marlins in '19.

Dorante is the second of two returning Minor League managers in the organization. He led the Florida Complex League Marlins to a 27-28 mark in 2021, in his return to the system after a stint from 2002-07. Before then, Dorante spent nine seasons as a skipper and coach in the Yankees' organization, winning a pair of championships and Manager of the Year honors.

Prada's second season with the DSL Marlins is his first as manager after serving as the hitting coach. He spent the previous eight seasons on the Phillies' player development staff.
