Defending champ hoping to put on a show for fans

June 27th, 2017

MIAMI -- welcomes all challengers to the T-Mobile Home Run Derby, set for July 10 at Marlins Park. What the Marlins' slugger is quick to remind is that whoever commits, they should remember to have fun.
Stanton, who won the 2016 Derby in record fashion, announced on Sunday that he will defend his crown in his home park.

"I'm looking forward to it," Stanton said on Tuesday. "I know it's going to be a good time, win or lose, it doesn't matter. Just enjoy the moment, enjoy the atmosphere. It's not too often you get to have the Home Run Derby in your home town."

With Stanton already onboard, the question now is whether rookies of the Yankees and of the Dodgers will also agree to participate.
Asked if he wanted to face Judge, Stanton said: "Anybody. Judge. Bellinger. All those guys, the fans want to see it."

Stanton has a personal choice for whom he would like to see compete: . The Miami left fielder is in line to be the third starting outfielder for the National League in the MLB All-Star Game presented by Mastercard on July 11.

"I want Ozuna to be in it, too," Stanton said. "So, the best candidates. Whoever wants to do it, have fun and just not have pressure on it."
At Petco Park in San Diego last year, Stanton set a Derby record with 61 homers.
"You hit a groove, and you never know what happens," Stanton said.

Stanton also said he is hoping to have Pat Shine, who pitched to him in last year's Derby, come back to Miami to throw to him once again. Shine, formerly on the Marlins' staff, is currently working in the Mariners' system.
"The winning formula," Stanton said.
