JUPITER, Fla. -- From across the diamond, Don Mattingly was victimized by Giancarlo Stanton's game-changing power. Now, the first-year Marlins manager is glad to have the three-time All-Star right fielder on his side.
Mattingly doesn't need to be reminded about just how imposing Stanton is. Still fresh in his memory is the home run the Miami slugger blasted last year that cleared the pavilion in left field and sailed out of Dodger Stadium.
"You see him hit balls, and you know he is big, but when you see him in person, you're like, [Oh wow]," Mattingly said. "You look at his age, and he's 26. You've seen he's been playing a while, and you're like, 'This cat is still young.'"

Early in Spring Training, Stanton is again creating an "awe factor" by how hard he hits a baseball.
"I've seen him in games enough," Mattingly said. "He hit a ball out of Dodger Stadium last year. I've seen him hit balls in Miami that were just rockets."

When it comes to exit velocity on balls put in play, Stanton stands alone. According to Statcast™, Stanton's average launch speed on balls put in play is 99.11 mph, nearly 10 mph faster than the Major League Baseball average of 89.28 mph.
Statcast™ lists Stanton's average distance of balls put in play as 243.26 feet, significantly further than the MLB average of 210.09 feet.
