Marlins unveil color-capable lighting system

March 24th, 2022

The Marlins have teamed up with Musco on a new LED sports lighting system, becoming the first Major League ballpark in the United States to feature color capability. Not only will it provide improved visibility for players in tracking the trajectory of the baseball, but it also will elevate the fan experience at the ballpark and the TV viewing experience with a more focused lighting on the field of play and show-time elements with special effects.

With the new sports lighting system, the club intends on hosting postgame light shows in the ballpark, syncing music with the color-shifting lights. Fans can get their first glimpse of the new LED lights and the postgame lights shows at the home opener on April 14 against the Phillies. The new lighting system will bring pinpoint precision, instant on/off capability, varying lights levels for special effects and sports presentation theatrics.

The first retractable roof structure in the world to earn LEED Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, loanDepot park's transition to the new lighting system reaffirms the Marlins' commitment to sustainability with a significant reduction in energy consumption. The ballpark will now feature 414 light fixtures as opposed to the 771 light fixtures in previous years, meaning it can maintain the same lighting levels with nearly 50 percent fewer fixtures.
