CHICAGO -- White Sox third baseman/designated hitter Matt Davidson was placed on the 10-day disabled list Tuesday (retroactive to Friday) with a right wrist contusion. Davidson was hit by a Marcus Stroman pitch last Tuesday, left the game early and has not played since.
"I'm not going to push it," said White Sox manager Rick Renteria of Davidson, who leads the team with 22 home runs and was in Sunday's starting lineup at Fenway Park before being scratched pregame. "I'm not going to put him in a position where I believe I might cause him more harm. It was kind of an easy decision to make."
That decision became easier to make with right fielder Avisail Garcia ready to come off his one-game injury rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte and be activated. The first-time American League All-Star was placed on the disabled list on July 27 (retroactive to July 26) with a strained ligament in his right thumb.
Garcia entered Tuesday hitting .303 with 13 home runs and 54 RBIs in 88 games, making him a potentially attractive piece for the future with two years of team control after '17.

"It's good to have him back healthy and he's having a fine year and he's young enough to reasonably project him having an important role on this club going forward," White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said. "At the same time, you're dealing with a player who has only two years of control left, so you have to make a determination what does the cost of control look like to control him through when we're likely to be competitive over an extended period of time versus some alternatives.
"I don't think a determination has been made about any individual player right now who is in his 26 years or that age range that 'Avi' is in. It's more a matter of giving them the space to perform and show they belong from an ability standpoint."
