KANSAS CITY -- In the eighth inning of Thursday night's 6-4 win over the Mariners, Royals right fielder Melky Cabrera sprinted toward a ball slicing near foul territory.
Cabrera, who was acquired from the White Sox in a trade on Sunday, had just helped the Royals take a 5-3 lead in the seventh with an RBI single. With two out and the bases empty, Cabrera leapt, crashed into the wall and made the catch for the final out of the inning.
"That's a pretty tall wall over there," center fielder Lorenzo Cain said. "For him to pull his best Spider-Man trick over there to go get it was definitely a huge play."
Following the catch, Cabrera let out a scream as he ran into the dugout, and the Royals waved their caps in acknowledgement of his difficult grab.
"That was a spectacular play, but the reason he was able to make that play is because [first-base coach Rusty Kuntz] had him positioned perfectly in right field," manager Ned Yost said. "The degree of difficulty in the play was huge because he had to leap and hit the wall, and catch the ball, all at the same time."

In the midst of a decisive two-run seventh inning, Cabrera drove in his first run since returning to the Royals. After taking a 4-3 lead when Alcides Escobar scored on a go-ahead single by Cain, Cabrera knocked a single into left field. Whit Merrifield, who had reached on an error, scored for a 5-3 lead.
Cabrera had a less than stellar first series with the club, going 2-for-10 in three losses to the Orioles. But he went 2-for-3 with two singles and a walk against the Mariners.
"[Cabrera] balances our lineup so much," said designated hitter Brandon Moss, who homered twice in the win. "It allows me and [Jorge Bonifacio] to match up really well. ... It puts a guy right there in the three-hole who switch-hits, gets on base a lot, grinds out at-bats. He made a great play. It's really nice to have him."
