NEW YORK -- The Mets apologized Wednesday for an inappropriate gesture that one of their employees, wearing their iconic Mr. Met mascot costume, made to a fan at Citi Field.

First appearing on social media during the Mets' 7-1 loss to the Brewers, a cell phone video showed the employee gesturing to a fan while walking into a stadium tunnel. Shortly after the game, the Mets released the following statement:

"We apologize for the inappropriate action of this employee. We do not condone this type of behavior. We are dealing with this matter internally."

A Mets official said Thursday that the team has reassigned the employee to another job in the organization.
