Mets discuss free-agent closer Holland

March 29th, 2018

NEW YORK -- The Mets have had internal discussions about adding free-agent reliever Greg Holland, according to a source, but nothing is serious and the club hasn't come close to the stage where it would consider making an offer. A signing remains unlikely.
Holland, 32, saved 41 games with a 3.61 ERA for the Rockies last season. To sign him, the Mets would have to forfeit their second-round Draft pick, as well as $500,000 in international pool space. The Draft pick stipulation disappears if Holland waits until after the 2018 Draft to sign, though it stands to reason the Mets would face competition from many additional clubs at that point.
