Mets agree with 2nd-round Draft pick Alonso

June 27th, 2016

WASHINGTON -- The Mets continued the process of signing their Draft picks on Monday, inking second-rounder Pete Alonso to a below-slot deal of $909,200, according to MLBPipeline.com's Jim Callis. Alonso, a first baseman from the University of Florida, hit .374 with 14 homers in 58 games for the Gators.
He hit two home runs over Florida's final three postseason games.
Like fellow polished college product Michael Conforto, Alonso has the potential to move quickly through the Mets' system. He'll likely start out at Class A Short Season Brooklyn, where fellow 2016 draftees Justin Dunn, Blake Tiberi, Colby Woodmansee and Gene Cone already reside. Dunn, the Mets' first-round pick, is expected to debut later this week.
