Mets place Duda, Flores on disabled list

Cespedes likely out all weekend with hamstring injury

April 21st, 2017

NEW YORK -- The Mets put first baseman and infielder on the 10-day disabled list Friday, but Duda and Flores were only the start of an injury list that is growing by the day.
Duda suffered a hyperextended left elbow on a play at first base in the Mets' 5-4 win over the Phillies on Wednesday. Flores has an infection in his right knee, and doctors said he will remain in the hospital through the weekend.
The Mets filled their 25-man roster by recalling infielder and left-hander from Triple-A Las Vegas. Rivera was in the Mets' lineup at third base for Friday night's game against the Nationals. Gilmartin will pitch out of the bullpen, although he is also a possible starter if 's stiff neck doesn't heal in time for him to pitch Saturday.
Besides Duda and Flores, the Mets played Friday without left fielder , shortstop and catcher in the starting lineup. Cabrera and d'Arnaud appeared as pinch-hitters in the 4-3 loss to the Nationals.
Cespedes, who left Thursday's 6-4 loss to the Phillies with a strained left hamstring, will likely be out of the lineup all weekend, according to manager Terry Collins. Cabrera also has a sore hamstring, but Collins said he may only miss one game. d'Arnaud was in Collins' original lineup Friday, but the backstop was scratched because the right wrist contusion he suffered Wednesday left him unable to throw.
The Mets also had to scratch deGrom because of stiff neck. Matt Harvey was set to start in deGrom's place Friday, and the Mets hope deGrom will recover in time to pitch Saturday.
"I've got a good team," Collins said. "They're only good when they're playing. I know when the weather warms up, this is going to change. I hope it warms up fast. I want our fans to be entertained."
Collins is hopeful that taking a cautious approach with Cespedes and Cabrera would keep both off the disabled list.
"As I told our coaches, we can afford to lose Cespedes for this series, but I don't want to lose him for three to four weeks," Collins said.
With Cespedes out, started in left field Friday, with in center field. played shortstop in place of Cabrera, with Rivera taking over at third.
played first base in Duda's absence, as he did Thursday. Collins said he can also use Rivera at first base while Duda and Flores are out.
