LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Signing late in the offseason did not afford Roger Bernadina much margin for error. So when Bernadina encountered a visa issue in his native Curacao, it turned into a nightmare of last-minute travel -- he had to fly to Amsterdam to rectify the issue -- that made him several days late to Mets camp.
Bernadina finally reported to camp on Saturday and appeared in his first game Tuesday, going 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored as the Mets lost 5-4 to the Braves. The seven-year big league veteran projects to open the season at Triple-A Las Vegas.

"I've been swinging, I've been throwing a little bit," Bernadina said of his delay. "Basically that's the only thing I've been doing. But so far, so good."
Worth noting 
• Third baseman David Wright and general manager Sandy Alderson will be absent from Wednesday's game against the Yankees. The two plan to fly north with chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon and members of the Mets' public relations staff for a memorial service at Citi Field honoring longtime Mets staffer Shannon Forde. The Mets will hold another memorial Thursday in Florida for Forde, who passed away Friday after a long battle with breast cancer.
• Outfielder Curtis Granderson is tentatively scheduled to make his Grapefruit League debut on Wednesday after sitting out the spring's first seven games due to the effects of an eye injury. Granderson attempted to wear contacts Tuesday for the first time since his injury and will play as long as he has no adverse reaction to them.
