SAN FRANCISCO -- The Mets secured their first road series win of 2026 with a 5-2 comeback win over the Giants on Sunday at Oracle Park … though it wasn’t quite how they drew it up.
Already without Juan Soto (mild right calf strain), a lineup shuffle pregame saw Jared Young inserted into left field in place of Brett Baty (jammed left thumb). Backing up the classic baseball platitude “the ball will find you,” Young promptly recorded his first career three-hit game and made two stellar defensive plays.
Undermanned against Giants ace Logan Webb, the Mets soldiered on. With the cushion of Kodai Senga striking out six of his first eight batters and pitching into the sixth -- undone by a three-hit frame bookended by two unlucky bloop singles -- New York’s offense battled.
Ultimately, it was catcher Luis Torrens, pinch-hitting for Young in the eighth against lefty Erik Miller, who came through with a two-run double to right field to flip a 2-1 deficit to a 3-2 lead.
Torrens, who improved to a career average of .352 off the bench (19-for-54), slapped a full-count changeup the other way, making good on manager Carlos Mendoza’s decision to bring him in in favor of the hot-hitting Young.
The Mets added on with two more runs in the frame, turning the tables on the Giants with some late-inning magic and escaping San Francisco for a happy flight back to Queens.
