MIAMI – The Miami Marlins today completed the 2026 First-Year Player Draft, making 16 selections on Day 2. Of Miami’s 21 selections in this year’s draft, 14 are pitchers (12 right-handed pitchers, two left-handed pitchers), five are infielders, and two are outfielders.

On Day 1 of the 2026 First-Year Player Draft, the Marlins selected SS Jacob Lombard from Gulliver Preparatory School (Miami, Fla.) with the 14th overall pick, Oregon State LHP Ethan Kleinschmit with the 52nd overall pick, Sam Houston State RHP Ryan Peterson with the 71st overall pick, Arkansas SS Cam Kozeal with the 87th overall pick, and Glynn Academy OF Wessley Roberson with the 115th overall pick.

Lombard, ranked as the No. 5 Draft prospect by both MLB Pipeline and Baseball America, becomes the third South Florida first-round selection in Marlins history, joining C Charles Johnson (1993, University of Miami) and RHP Chris Volstad (2005, Palm Beach Gardens High School). The right-handed hitter slashed .477/.607/.864 (42x88) with four doubles, 10 home runs, 25 RBI, and 14 stolen bases during his senior season at Gulliver Prep this spring, drawing 24 walks against 15 strikeouts. The 6-foot-3 shortstop and University of Miami commit joins his father, George Lombard Sr., and brother, George Lombard Jr., as the third member of the family to be selected in the first two rounds of the MLB Draft.

Miami’s next two selections on Day 1 featured two college arms in LHP Ethan Kleinschmit (second round, 52nd overall) and RHP Ryan Peterson (CB-B round, 71st overall). Kleinschmit totaled 97 strikeouts in 77.0 innings pitched in his junior season at Oregon State, posting a 9-2 record and 3.74 ERA (32 ER/77.0 IP) in 15 starts. Peterson struck out 105 batters in 88.0 innings during his junior season at Sam Houston State, combining for a 6-5 record and 3.38 ERA (33 ER/88.0 IP) in 15 starts. He also walked just 23 batters for a 2.4 BB/9 rate in his third season with the Bearkats.

With the first selection on Day 2, Miami selected Florida State LHP Trey Beard in the fifth round (147th overall). The 6-foot-2 native of Dunedin, Fla., went 6-1 with a 4.50 ERA (34 ER/68.0 IP) in 14 games (12 starts) with the Seminoles during his junior season. He struck out 97 batters against 24 walks, good for a 33.0 percent strikeout rate and an 8.2 percent walk rate.

Also highlighting Miami’s Day 2 selections are a trio of internationally-born players in Auburn SS Eric Guevara (seventh round, 205th overall) from Panama, Stanford 1B Rintaro Sasaki (eighth round, 235th overall) from Japan, and Monterey Peninsula JC RHP Fabio Bundi (11th round, 325th overall) from Switzerland. Sasaki was previously selected in the first round of the 2025 Nippon Professional Baseball Draft by the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks. He started all 54 games for the Cardinal in 2026, batting .262 (54x206) with 16 home runs and 47 RBI while drawing a team-best 45 walks. The 6-foot-1 left-handed hitter graduated from Hanamaki Higashi High School, where he set the Japanese high school record with 140 career home runs.

Other Day 2 selections include: University of Minnesota LHP Cole Selvig (sixth round, 176th overall), Oktaha High School 3B Nic Tolbert (ninth round, 265th overall), VCU RHP Zach Peters (10th round, 295th overall), and Sandalwood High School RHP Bane Barker (12th round, 355th overall).
