ANAHEIM -- Michael Brantley, an All-Star for the fourth time this season, has had a distinguished career. He’s never really been known as a slugger, though; his reputation has long been that of a contact hitter.

Still, the Astros outfielder hit a power milestone mark on Wednesday at Angel Stadium by delivering his 100th career home run.

With one out in the first, a runner on and one run already in, Brantley, serving as designated hitter, drove a first-pitch fastball from Angels starter Felix Pena into the right-field seats for a two-run homer. The ball traveled a projected 415 feet with an exit velocity of 101.4 mph, according to Statcast. It was his 13th homer of the season.

“I think [it’s] more important that we got a win as a team,” said Brantley. “[But] it’s something that I’ll never forget, and when I retire, I’ll look back and remember this day, for sure.”

Brantley’s highest single-season homer total in his 11-year career is 20, achieved while with Cleveland in 2014. He had been sitting at 99 homers for almost two weeks, having last gone yard on July 5, also off of Pena.

“George [Springer] joked with him inside and said it took him 10 years to get 100,” manager AJ Hinch said with a laugh. “He was still congratulated, but maybe a little bit of a jab in there somewhere.”

“Yeah, it took me a little while longer,” said Brantley. “I don’t hit too many home runs.”

Brantley got the home run ball back. The fan who caught the ball didn’t ask for anything in return, but was still compensated with a couple of autographed baseballs and a bat.
