Rockies outfielder Mickey Moniak made two impressive leaping catches in left field and added a double on a 1-for-5 night at the plate in a rehab game, as he helped Triple-A Albuquerque to a 6-5 win over Sugar Land on Saturday.
Moniak is working his way back from right ankle tendinitis, which landed him on the on the 10-day injured list on May 22. He sustained the injury in a crash with the center-field wall in the first inning of a May 12 game in Pittsburgh, and played nine games after than before being sidelined.
Moniak's first great grab of Saturday's contest came in the top of the third inning as he traveled to warning track and jumped at the wall to rob Space Cowboys left fielder Shay Whitcomb of extra bases.
The next inning, Moniak flashed the leather again with an amazing leaping grab at the wall to retire Sugar Land first baseman Cavan Biggio.
Moniak is in the midst of what's expected to be a three-game rehab assignment before heading back to Denver on Monday to be reevaluated by the Rockies' medical staff. The former No. 1 overall Draft pick is batting .280 with 12 homers and 28 RBIs in 43 games for Colorado this season.
