Miggy slips to 2nd, but All-Star start in sight

Slugger trails Alonso by about 4,500 votes in AL first-base race

June 13th, 2017

DETROIT -- The Tigers have had a position player voted or selected to every All-Star Game since 2001. That streak now looks to be in some jeopardy.
had been leading American League first basemen in All-Star balloting since voting began, but has now fallen behind Oakland's according to the latest update released Tuesday. Alonso leads Cabrera by about 4,500 votes, erasing what was a 42,000 lead for Cabrera a week ago.
With no other Tigers in the top five at their respective positions in balloting -- and no Tigers outfielder is in the top 15 --Cabrera is by far Detroit's best hope of getting a Tiger in the All-Star starting lineup, and maybe on the roster at all. If the Tigers end up with one All-Star, it could be a pitcher, with and looking like strong candidates.
