Sano moves into top spot in AL 3B voting

June 6th, 2017

Minnesota third baseman took a massive leap in Tuesday's second American League update for the 2017 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot. Sano is now the leading vote-getter at his position, leapfrogging past Manny Machado of the Orioles.
Sano trailed Machado by more than 5,000 votes in the first ballot update, but he now holds a firm advantage at the top of the hot corner with 638,952 total votes. Cleveland's is nearly 98,000 votes behind Sano. Machado is now third with 520,116 votes, while Toronto's Josh Donaldson and Houston's round out the top five.
The Twins slugger has mashed the ball this season, leading the club's drastic turnaround. Sano has a team-high 14 homers and 43 RBIs, to go along with his 1.016 OPS. In all three categories, he is firmly in the top two at his position in the AL. According to Statcast™, Sano's average exit velocity of 96.6 mph is the best mark in the Major Leagues this year.
For the second week in a row, the AL Central-leading Twins had no one other than Sano represented among the voting leaders.
