Hard-throwing righty still a possibility for next weekend's series vs. O's

ATLANTA -- Mike Foltynewicz will get a little extra rest with a disabled-list stint, but it appears the Braves right-hander could come off the DL to start one of the last two games of next weekend's series against the Orioles.
The Braves placed Foltynewicz on the 10-day DL on Saturday, retroactive to Wednesday. The 26-year-old hurler will be eligible to be activated June 23, one day after he was likely to make his next start.
Foltynewicz exited Tuesday's start against the Mets with right triceps tightness. He got through Saturday's bullpen session in relatively pain-free fashion, but there was enough lingering discomfort that the Braves determined it was best to take advantage of the two off-days next week to give him some additional rest.
"We've got such a long way to go that if he felt it enough, we figured we'll just give him a few extra days," Braves manager Brian Snitker said.
likely will make a start during the two-game series against the Blue Jays that begins Tuesday in Toronto. could start the second game, but stands as another option.
If the Braves opt to keep McCarthy in their rotation, he could start Friday's series opener against the Orioles, though it seems more likely the Braves would give the assignment after an extra day of rest.

As the Braves evaluated Foltynewicz over the past few days, they seemed to be leaning toward having him start Friday's game. Now they can hold him back at least one additional day. This move also erases the possibility that Newcomb starts next weekend against the Orioles with more than one day of rest.
When the Braves placed Foltynewicz on the DL, they activated right-hander , who is scheduled to start Sunday's series finale against the Padres.
