Napoli hits home run for fan with cancer

CLEVELAND -- Fans are always bringing signs to the game. However, this particular sign got Indians first baseman Mike Napoli's attention. The sign read "Chemo starts tomorrow. Mike Napoli, can I get a hug and a homer?"
Prior to the start of the Indians' 9-2 loss to the Rangers on Monday, Napoli made his way to Kathi Heintzelman and signed a baseball for her. Napoli then gave her a hug and took a picture with her as well.
"Somebody told me about the sign before I went out to stretch," Napoli said. "But I saw it when I went out there. I just went out there and said, 'hello,' and took a picture with her. Then, I wished her good luck."

The latter of the two requests was much harder to do, but Napoli obliged. In the sixth inning with one out, Napoli blasted a 1-2 offering from Derek Holland over the left-field wall to get the Indians on the board. The ball landed a projected 411 feet away from home plate, as tracked by Statcast™. It was the lone run scored off the Texas starter at Progressive Field.

Napoli's team-leading 11th homer extended his hitting streak to seven games. He has hit four home runs during the streak.
