"MLB is very pleased to launch the new 'MLB4' tournament to highlight just a touch of the great baseball being played all around our country at this time of the year," said Tony Reagins, Executive Vice President of Baseball & Softball Development, Major League Baseball. "College baseball is a cornerstone of our sport's pipeline, and it is important that we continue to emphasize attention toward this segment of the game. The four programs selected to participate in this inaugural event are among the best and we are excited to bring a great product to fans in Arizona this February."

In addition to MLB4, MLB will host the "Andre Dawson Classic" at the New Orleans MLB Youth Academy that same weekend. The event has been named after the Chicago Cubs and Montreal Expos legend who is one of only two HBCU baseball-playing alumni enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame. The 2019 edition of the event, formerly known as the "Urban Invitational," will feature eight collegiate baseball teams, seven of which are from HBCU programs.

In June, the Kansas City Royals and the Detroit Tigers will play a regular season game in Omaha, Nebraska on Thursday, June 13, 2019. Honoring Omaha's baseball tradition, the first Major League game ever held in Nebraska will be televised nationally by ESPN and will be played at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha - one day before the Opening Celebration Day of the 2019 National Collegiate Athletic Association's (NCAA) Men's College World Series and two days before the event's first game. GEICO will be the presenting sponsor of the event as part of the new GEICO Summer Series. The game resulted from an agreement between MLB, the NCAA, Minor League Baseball, the Triple-A Omaha Storm Chasers and Omaha's Metropolitan Entertainment & Convention Authority (MECA).
