Reds open '17 as they did '16: home vs. Phillies

September 14th, 2016

CINCINNATI -- If the Reds' opponent for 2017 Opening Day has the feel of déjà vu, that's because it's the same team they faced in the 2016 opener. Next season opens on April 3, 2017, vs. the Phillies -- and per tradition, it will be home at Great American Ball Park.
Cincinnati took a three-game sweep of Philadelphia to begin this season.
Major League Baseball released the schedules for all 30 clubs on Wednesday. Game times have yet to be determined.
• Reds' 2017 schedule
The schedule skews heavily to the Reds' National League Central, especially in the first and last months of the season. The first visit by the Cubs is April 21-23, the Pirates are May 1-4, and the Cardinals don't come to town until June 5-8.
Interleague Play next year features the Reds against clubs from the American League East. The home Interleague games are vs. the Orioles (April 18-20), Yankees (May 8-9) and Red Sox (Sept. 22-24). On the road, they will face the Blue Jays (May 29-31), Rays (June 19-21) and Yankees (July 25-26).
Once again, there will be a four-game home-and-home series vs. the natural Ohio rival, the Indians, that begins in Cincinnati from May 22-23 and finishes in Cleveland May 24-25.
• 2017 season ticket renewal
There will be three western trips to San Francisco from May 11-14, Dodgers and Padres on June 9-14 and the Rockies and D-backs July 2-9.
Although there are three trips that cover three cities, the Reds have just one 10-game trip on next season's schedule -- Aug. 11-20 in Milwaukee, Chicago and Atlanta.
Other important dates next season include Jackie Robinson Day on Saturday, April 15, the first day of the 2017 MLB Draft on Monday, June 12, and All-Star festivities at Marlins Park in Miami from July 9-11.
The Reds' regular season concludes at Wrigley Field vs. the Cubs on Oct. 1.
