Tuesday at Winter Meetings: In Real Life

December 12th, 2017

MLB.com was on the scene in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., for Day 2 of baseball's annual Winter Meetings. Catch up on all of the action right here.
9:35 p.m. ET: Skipper chatter from Day 2
Several big league managers met with the media during Day 2 of the Winter Meetings, and MLB.com's Phil Rogers was on hand to document the highlights, such as Astros manager A.J. Hinch discussing the importance of veteran leadership, Cubs manager Joe Maddon talking 's status as a leadoff hitter and A's manager Bob Melvin dishing on and Oakland's outfield depth.

6:11 p.m. ET: Manny of the hour
Questions swirled around the Orioles' shopping of star third baseman Manny Machado all day. And executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette confirmed on Day 2 that he is listening to offers for Machado, who will be a free agent at the end of 2018.
Whether the O's actually deal away one of the organization's most popular players since his arrival in 2012, is another matter entirely.
"Manny's an Oriole. I don't think you have to speculate [what the fanbase would think of a potential trade]," Duquette said. "There's a lot of interest in Manny and a couple of clubs requested a meeting, so we met with a couple of clubs specifically on that issue."

4:45 p.m. ET: Kapler of my eye
Gabe Kapler might be smiling because he's having a great time at his first Winter Meetings as Phillies manager. But might it have something to do with having an All-Star arm nearing a return to his bullpen?

4:30 p.m. ET: How the AL West was won
Mariners manager Scott Servais and Rangers skipper Jeff Banister get some face time with the media. Seattle has its eye on a free-agent reliever, while Texas hasn't ruled out a reunion with . No matter what happens, the clubs will have to contend with the reigning World Series champions as a division rival.

3:47 p.m. ET: Buck to the future
Orioles manager Buck Showalter's out here disrupting the home run space. But he might want to be careful what he wishes for.

3:40 p.m. ET: Cheers!

3:04 p.m. ET: Dr. Roberts
The Dodgers are comfortable taking their time at this year's Winter Meetings, but that probably won't do much to stop reporters from asking manager Dave Roberts about potential deals.

2:53 p.m. ET: Mickey: Tito, you're so fine
New Mets manager Mickey Callaway talks about learning the art of bullpen management while working as the Indians' pitching coach under skipper Terry Francona: "If you go back and look at Terry Francona's bullpens, there's not too many guys that ever struggled."

2:26 p.m. ET: Neander haul?
The Rays, who could choose to build on last year's 80-win season or position themselves for the future, are one of the most interesting teams to watch at the Meetings. General manager Erik Neander sits down with MLB Network to talk about all the possibilities.

2:14 p.m. ET: Going, going, Gonzo!

12:23 p.m. ET: Hey, Buddy
