HOUSTON -- For two months, they've formed the most productive slugging combo in the Major Leagues while leading the Red Sox to the best record in the game. In mid-July, Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez could have a chance to perform on the big stage of the All-Star Game.
• VOTE: 2018 Camping World MLB All-Star Ballot
The All-Star ballot is now live on MLB.com, and Betts represents the Red Sox in the outfield, while Martinez is listed as DH.
At 25 years old, Betts looks primed to become a perennial All-Star, and he is trying to make his third straight trip to the Midsummer Classic.
Now with the Red Sox, Martinez is starting to get the national recognition he has long deserved, and he could become an All-Star for the second time in his career.
Fans may cast votes for starters at MLB.com and all 30 club sites -- on computers, tablets and smartphones -- exclusively online using the 2018 Camping World MLB All-Star Ballot until July 5 at 11:59 p.m. ET. On smartphones and tablets, fans can also access the ballot via the MLB At Bat and MLB Ballpark mobile apps. Each fan can vote up to five times in any 24-hour period, for a maximum of 35 ballots cast.
Following the announcement of this year's All-Star starters, reserves and pitchers, fans should return to MLB.com and cast their 2018 Camping World MLB All-Star Final Vote for the final player on each league's roster. Betts wasted no time laying the foundation for what could be his best season to date. He had a three-homer game in Anaheim on April 17 and another on May 2 at home against the Royals. In just his fourth full season, Betts has already passed Ted Williams for the most three-homer games in Red Sox history with four.
"It's pretty cool," Betts said. "He hit .400 one year. He did a whole bunch of other things I haven't done. Just to know my name is amongst his is pretty cool."
Back to current events, Betts' name has been next to Martinez's all season among the MLB leaders in home runs.
For those who wondered how Martinez would fit playing in a pressurized market like Boston, the right-handed hitter has responded with a sizzling start to the season.
"To me, I just play baseball, whether I have the contract or not," Martinez said. "I take this game the same way I've been doing it for the last four or five years, that's the way I look at it. That's what I said when I first signed here. When you guys all asked me that, I said the same thing, I said 'I'm going to play this game how I know how to play it.' That's what I've been doing."
Andrew Benintendi (outfield) and Xander Bogaerts (shortstop) are two other Red Sox players who could warrant strong consideration in the balloting.
