Mookie, J.D. hold leads for ASG starting spots

First baseman Moreland in third place, trailing Abreu, Gurriel

July 2nd, 2018

WASHINGTON -- Red Sox star right fielder played his first career game at Nationals Park on Monday night, but you can just about be sure these three games in this series won't be the only time he plays in the nation's capital this month.
VOTE: 2018 Camping World MLB All-Star Ballot
As the final round of All-Star balloting was released, Betts remained the leader for the American League in the outfield with 3,119,106 votes. Astros second baseman is the only player in either league who has more votes than Betts.
If things stay on their current pace, the AL will have a stacked starting outfield trio of and to go along with Betts.

J.D. Martinez, who is having a monster first season for the Red Sox, is a likely candidate to team with Betts in the AL starting lineup. He has 2,236,945 votes for a commanding lead over (977,274) at DH.
First baseman Mitch Moreland can use a late push from Red Sox Nation to make him an All-Star for the first time. Moreland is currently third at his position with 907,955 votes, trailing (1,312,221) and Yuli Gurriel (1,088,068).

A reserve when the season started, Moreland has had a strong season for the Red Sox offensively and defensively.
Balloting closes at 11:59 p.m. ET on Thursday.
