Betts needs boost to start in All-Star Game

Outfielder fifth in latest American League voting results

BOSTON -- , who displays his wide range of skills on a daily basis for the Red Sox, will need a little push from his fans to be in the starting outfield for the American League at the upcoming All-Star presented by MasterCard.
As the third round of results was released on Tuesday for the Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot, Betts ranked fifth in the outfield with 714,185 votes. He is within range of the Astros' , who is in possession of the third and final starting spot in the outfield with 804,826 votes.
Betts is the epitome of a five-tool player, finding different ways to excel each night.

Even though Betts hasn't gotten red hot yet this season at the plate, he still has an .837 OPS with nine homers, 34 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. After winning his first AL Gold Glove Award last season, Betts has maintained his stellar defense while patrolling the challenging area of right field at Fenway Park.
Red Sox rookie left fielder is ninth in the outfield balloting with 551,438 votes.

Shortstop , who is aiming to start at short for the AL for the second straight year, is fourth at his position with 566,520 votes. Bogaerts has a .318/.370/.442 slash line. Now that the weather is warming up, perhaps Bogaerts will start adding some power to the mix. He has two homers and 23 RBIs entering action on Tuesday.
, a four-time All-Star, is starting to heat up after some injuries earlier in the season. The second baseman raked a walk-off single for the Red Sox on Monday night. He is fifth in the balloting at second with 313,548 votes.

Fans may cast votes for starters at MLB.com and all 30 club sites -- on computers, tablets and smartphones -- exclusively online using the 2017 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot until Thursday, June 29, at 11:59 p.m. ET. On smartphones and tablets, fans can also access the ballot via the MLB.com At Bat and MLB.com Ballpark mobile apps. Vote up to five times in any 24-hour period for a maximum of 35 ballots cast.
Following the announcement of the 2017 All-Star starters, reserves and pitchers, fans should return to MLB.com and cast their 2017 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Final Vote for the final player on each league's All-Star roster. Then on Tuesday, July 11, while watching the 2017 All-Star Game presented by MasterCard live on FOX, fans may visit MLB.com to submit their choices for the Ted Williams Most Valuable Player Award presented by Chevrolet with the 2017 MLB All-Star Game MVP Vote.
