Dodgers star plans to retire after his contract with Los Angeles ends.

In an appearance with John Cena on the Roku miniseries “What Drives You with John Cena,” Betts confirmed that he will retire following the 2032 season, at which point he’ll be 40 years old.

“I’ll be 40, my little girl will be 14, my son will be 10,” Betts told Cena. “My parents were always there, and I want do that same thing for my kids.”

Betts, a four-time World Series champion (three with the Dodgers) and the 2018 AL MVP with the Red Sox, signed a 12-year, $365 million deal with the Dodgers in July 2020 shortly after Los Angeles acquired him in a blockbuster trade with Boston before Spring Training of that year. In six seasons with the Dodgers, Betts has an .867 OPS, has been selected to four All-Star Games and was an integral part of L.A.’s titles in 2020 and 2024-25.

“Towards the end, it’s probably going to suck. For a while, it’s kind of what has defined me,” Betts said. “There’s no way for me to substitute going into the locker room, being on a plane and developing relationships with so many people for 20 to 30 years.”

The 33-year-old Betts, set to enter his 13th MLB season in 2026, will remain a vital part of a Dodgers team that has further boosted its roster this offseason as it prepares to vie for its third straight title.
