Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts has been named American League Player of the Month for July.
Betts, an All-Star for the first time this season, hit .368/.415/.653 with five home runs, 10 doubles and 15 RBIs in 23 July games for the Red Sox.
For the month, the 23-year-old ranked second in the AL in batting average, fifth in on-base percentage and second in slugging, among those with 75 plate appearances. He also led the league in doubles and posted a 1.068 OPS, good for second.
Betts also posted 11 multihit games, including five three-hit efforts.
This is the first career monthly award for Betts, who already has surpassed his career high for homers, with 22.
