The Rangers placed right-hander Nathan Eovaldi on the 15-day injured list with right posterior elbow inflammation, retroactive to Sunday, ahead of Monday's series opener against the Angels. Right-hander Ben Peoples was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move.
The 36-year-old Eovaldi, who was sidelined for a few weeks with the same injury last season, had avoided the IL this year until Monday's move. Aside from an effective outing his last time out, Eovaldi has struggled since the start of July, posting a 5.01 ERA while allowing seven home runs in 32 1/3 innings. In all this season, Eovaldi has gone 10-9 with a 4.21 ERA across 22 starts.
Peoples has appeared in 12 games as a rookie this year, allowing just three runs over 12 1/3 innings.
