For the eighth year, Washington Nationals Philanthropies is hosting its annual Turkeypalooza event in the DMV area.

This week, Nationals Philanthropies will distribute 1,100 turkeys and thousands of pounds of food at four pickup locations during three days.

CJ Abrams, James Wood and Ryan Zimmerman helped launch this year’s event on Monday afternoon. They joined volunteers from the Nationals’ front office and AARP, the community impact partner, at the Nationals Park Center Field Gate location.

“Nationals Philanthropies tackles food insecurity throughout the year through nutrition education, a weekly produce market and grants that improve access to healthy food in the communities with the greatest need,” Washington Nationals Philanthropies vice president and executive director Lauren McCarthy said in a statement.

“We are grateful that we can serve so many families across the region this holiday season with support from partners like AARP, Giant Food and DoorDash.”

The Turkeypalooza meal kits were created to provide recipients with a turkey, fresh produce and shelf-stable sides.

“As the inaugural Community Impact Partner of the Nationals, AARP is proud to support Turkeypalooza and help families across the region connect and enjoy the holiday season,” said AARP senior vice president of brand integration Barbara Shipley.
