DENVER -- Jayson Werth considers his streak of reaching base safely a product of his approach, which has been strong for the better part of the last two months.
He drew a walk in the first inning of Monday night's 5-4 victory against the Rockies to reach base for the 43rd consecutive game, matching the longest streak in Nationals history (2005-present). He is batting .263 with a .384 on-base percentage during the streak, which tied Ryan Zimmerman's record from 2009.
"My focus has always been to get on base," Werth said. "And you get on base good things can happen, so I want to get on base for our team because that's how we score runs. That's always been my approach, and I think it's more of a product of that."
Werth also collected two hits and launched a two-run homer in the third inning a Statcast-projected 442 feet, his longest homer of the year. It was his fourth homer in nine games and 16th of the season.

"That's something I've never really tried to do is hit home runs," Werth said. "It's more of a product of my approach and my swing, and lately that's kind of getting back to that, driving that ball right-center, it spins out of the park. If I can do that consistently, that's when the home runs come and that's kind of where I'm at, but it comes and goes."
Werth can now set his sights on the chasing the franchise record of Rusty Staub (46 games), who set the mark as a member of the Expos from 1969-70.
