VIERA, Fla. -- Nationals left-hander Oliver Perez will play for Mexico in the World Baseball Classic qualifier next week. He is expected to join the team Sunday and play for at least a week.
Perez is in his second stint in the Nationals organization. He spent most of the 2011 season with Double-A Harrisburg and had a respectable 3.09 ERA in 16 games (15 starts). This spring, Perez has pitched one shutout inning and struck out a batter.
"I'm excited to wear the uniform from Mexico again. I'm really proud wearing those colors," Perez said.

Manager Dusty Baker is all for Perez pitching for his country, but doesn't want him to pitch too many innings for Mexico.
"We have certain parameters, hopefully no consecutive days and not too many innings," Baker said.
