Cruz exits against Texas with heel discomfort

July 6th, 2019

MINNEAPOLIS -- Twins designated hitter was removed from the fourth inning of Friday night’s 15-6 win in the series opener against the Rangers with right heel discomfort. He is considered day to day, as announced by the club.

The move was made for precautionary reasons with the Twins up, 7-0.

Cruz, who turned 39 on Monday, had doubled as part of a six-run rally in the second inning, but he was lifted for pinch-hitter Miguel Sano for his next plate appearance in the fourth inning. Cruz, who had already missed 15 games with a left wrist strain earlier this season, was hitting .286/.371/.567 with 16 homers in 59 games entering Friday.
