Cruz homers to get DR on board against PR

March 15th, 2017

didn't let Puerto Rico's early lead last for long in the Dominican Republic's second-round World Baseball Classic rematch of the 2013 title game at Petco Park on Tuesday.
Cruz led off the top of the second with a blast to right-center off Orlando Roman that just cleared the wall to even the score, but it ended up being the only run for the defending Classic champions, who fell, 3-1, snapping their 11-game winning streak in the tournament.

The home run went to a replay review because a fan had reached over the top of the fence to catch the ball, and the home run call was ruled to stand. It was Cruz's second homer of the tournament.
Cruz's home run left the bat at 107.7 mph, according to Statcast™, and went a projected 404 feet. It was slightly unusual in that it went out to the opposite field. Cruz doesn't often show off his opposite-field power -- only five of his 43 home runs in 2016 were to right or right-center.
