New Rangers GM has serious bragging rights

Texas hitters are just 1-for-12 against their new boss

December 4th, 2020

When the Rangers players meet with their new GM, former pitcher Chris Young, there will be a few differences compared to their old boss, Jon Daniels, who remains the president of baseball operations. First, they'll quite literally be looking up to him: Young stands 6-foot-10, just one inch shorter than former pitcher Jon Rauch, who holds the title as the tallest Major Leaguer in history.

Second, Young has already dominated some active Rangers back during his playing days. Young faced Elvis Andrus, Rougned Odor and Joey Gallo, holding them to a combined 1-for-12 at the plate. So, if Young is ever upset and says, "Even I could get you out," well, he'd just be telling the truth.

Though Andrus had only one hit, his proved to be decisive in a Rangers victory. Andrus smashed a two-run homer against Young, then a Mariner, in the first inning of a 4-3 Rangers win on May 21, 2014.

While Young may not be ready to step back onto a big league roster, he's still only 41 years old. Don't be surprised if he's asked to get back on the mound for a little Spring Training rematch so Gallo, Andrus and Odor can attempt to even the score.
