Charlie Condon and Travis Bazzana have dominated college baseball headlines this season, seemingly setting milestones with every swing of the bat.

We now have a new name on that list: Nick Kurtz.

Ranked No. 2 on MLB Pipeline’s preseason Top 100 Draft Prospects list, the Wake Forest first baseman had a historic week, leaving the yard on six of his last seven at-bats and totaling 10 homers in six games. The red-hot stretch featured three multihomer games, including the first three-homer game for Wake Forest since Brock Wilken – now the Brewers’ No. 7 prospect – did it against Alabama in the Winston-Salem Super Regional last season.

Kurtz, who touts a 65-grade power tool and 60-grade hit tool, entered the 2024 NCAA season as a favorite to go first overall in this summer’s Draft, but a shoulder injury and slow start originally put a damper on those hopes. The lefty slugger posted a disappointing .217 average with just three homers through his first 19 contests of 2024.

Since then however, he has revived his season and then some. In the past seven games, including the six-game,10-homer stretch that he is currently riding, Kurtz has an unheard-of .536/.629/1.679 slash line. The hot streak has raised his batting average a full 101 percentage points to .318 and earned Kurtz ACC Player of the Week honors.

To strengthen his performance even further, nine of the 10 homers came against ranked opponents (North Carolina, No. 13; Virginia Tech, No. 16; and Coastal Carolina, No. 20).

Kurtz’s next game is at Boston College on April 12, at 3 p.m. ET, when he will look to continue his unbelievable streak.
