CHICAGO -- Following their 12-5 loss to the Rangers on Friday, the White Sox placed outfielder Nicky Delmonico on the 10-day disabled list with a fractured third metacarpal in his right hand. Delmonico left the game in the second inning after he was drilled by a 1-2, two-out pitch from Texas starter Matt Moore.
"Tough break," manager Rick Renteria said. "For us, we're going to miss Nicky's bat in the lineup and the energy. He's still going to be around, obviously. We'll just have to make an adjustment and continue to move forward."
Delmonico is expected to miss four to six weeks. The White Sox recalled right-handed pitcher and infielder Josee Rondon from Triple-A Charlotte and optioned right-hander to Charlotte. replaced Delmonico after he was hit, and followed with a double to left to score with the team's third run.
On the season, Delmonico is hitting .224/.333/.302 with one home run and seven RBIs. Garcia will likely receive the lion's share of playing time in left field in Delmonico's absence.
