No injuries after robbery at Cardinals' Dominican Republic facility

ST. LOUIS -- No players or staff were injured when the Cardinals' baseball training center in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic, was robbed by thieves early on Friday, the organization said in a press release.

The incident occurred between 12:30 and 4:00 a.m. Atlantic Time, and the bandits made off with money, cell phones, jewelry and baseball equipment. Local authorities were called soon afterward to investigate.

“This was scary on many fronts,” Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak said in a statement. “Our players and staff were shaken up, but not harmed. No one was injured, and we will reassess our security provisions immediately.”

The Cardinals opened their complex in Boca Chica in 2015. It hosts their Dominican Summer League team, which finished 17-36 and seventh in the South Division in 2023. The DSL is a gateway into affiliated professional baseball for players not eligible for Major League Baseball’s annual First-Year Player Draft.

During the offseason, the facility continues to house players while they participate in baseball workouts and school.
