BOSTON -- There are no must-win games in August, but there certainly are much-needed wins, and the Diamondbacks got one of those Wednesday evening at Fenway Park.
Nolan Arenado's jam-shot bloop single to left scored Gabriel Moreno from third as they beat the Red Sox, 7-6, in 10 innings in front of a sellout crowd.
The win snapped Arizona’s three-game losing streak and gave the team something to smile about after a rough week that saw one of its star players, Ketel Marte, not show up for Monday's game. The Diamondbacks placed Marte on the restricted list and dropped the first two games of the series without him.
Moreno started 10th as the automatic runner at second and was sacrificed to third by Geraldo Perdomo. Moreno was able to score easily on Arenado’s hit. Arizona tacked on another run when Jovani Morán walked the next three hitters to force in a run.
The game was a seesaw affair with the Red Sox grabbing a 2-0 lead after three and before the Diamondbacks scored three in the fifth and two in the sixth to go up 5-2.
Boston tied the game in the sixth on a three-run homer by Mickey Gasper.
