D-backs award Kevin Medrano, Jimmie Sherfy with monthly honors

The Arizona Diamondbacks named Triple-A Reno INF Kevin Medrano (@medranamo13) and RHP Jimmie Sherfy the organization's Minor League Player and Pitcher of the Month for June. 
Medrano, 27, hit .371 (36-for-97) with 9 doubles, 2 home runs and 16 RBI in 25 games in June for Double-A Jackson. He ranked among Southern League leaders last month in average (1st), hits (1st), doubles (2nd), OPS (4th, .939), OBP (T-4th, .413), slugging pct. (5th, .526), extra-base hits (T-5th) and RBI (T-7th), and was promoted to Reno on June 30. Medrano was selected by the D-backs in the in the 18th round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of Missouri State University.
Sherfy, 25, did not allow a run in 9 games (14.2 IP) with 14 strikeouts against 2 walks for the Aces in June. He held opponents to a .194 average (7-for-36) and was 5-for-5 in save opportunities. Sherfy, a native of Camarillo, Calif., was selected by the D-backs in the 10th round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Oregon.
