Orioles No. 1 prospect Hunter Harvey will have Tommy John surgery on Tuesday, a source told MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo on Thursday. The club has not confirmed.
The 21-year-old right-hander, who was Baltimore's first-round Draft pick in 2013, started this season in Rookie ball and was most recently pitching for Class A Short-Season Aberdeen. Harvey had a 2.13 ERA in five starts between the two levels over 12 2/3 innings.
In addition to being ranked the O's top prospect, Harvey is also the No. 73 prospect in baseball according to MLBPipeline.com.
Harvey had previously missed the entire 2015 season due to a right elbow strain, which had also cut his '14 season short.
