It’s easy to imagine a 4-6-3 or 6-4-3 double play, but a 7-5-3 double play? That’s rare enough that it’s probably tough to envision.
And even if you could somehow conjure up an image of a 7-5-3 twin killing, there’s practically no way it looked like what actually went down on Sunday for Triple-A Oklahoma City.
With one out in the seventh inning against Round Rock, the Dodgers’ Triple-A affiliate pulled off a wild double play that should prove hard to replicate. Express first baseman Alejandro Osuna flied a ball into shallow left field, and Comets outfielder Jack Suwinski slid in attempting to make the grab.
But it wasn’t that easy: The ball popped right out of Suwinski’s glove and into the air, where third baseman Noah Miller -- who had raced into the outfield on the play -- was practically waiting. Thanks to some quick instincts, Miller stopped on a dime and stepped forward to make the catch to retire Osuna. He then made a perfect throw all the way from the foul line to first base, doubling off catcher Jose Herrera for the inning’s final out.
It wasn’t how Oklahoma City drew things up, but it was two outs all the same -- in quite exciting fashion.
