O's extend protective netting at Camden Yards

August 29th, 2019

The Orioles announced Thursday that they are extending protective netting down the foul lines and nearly to the foul poles at each corner of Oriole Park at Camden Yards. The netting will be installed before Baltimore’s next home game against the Rangers on Sept. 5.

“The safety and security of our fans is of the utmost importance to the Orioles as we continue cultivating a fun, fan-friendly and affordable experience for everyone to safely enjoy Orioles baseball,” the club said as part of an official statement. “The Orioles and the Maryland Stadium Authority, in conjunction with Populous and other experts in the field, researched all available options and performed due diligence to determine that this is the best and safest option for Oriole Park.”

Baltimore will also extend the netting at Ed Smith Stadium, its Spring Training home in Sarasota, Fla., prior to the opening of camp next year. The Orioles follow teams like the White Sox, Nationals, Dodgers and Braves that have extended the netting at their ballparks to increase fan safety.
