Trumbo making late push for All-Star votes

O's slugger hit league-leading 23rd home run in win Wednesday

June 29th, 2016

SAN DIEGO -- Mark Trumbo is stating his case for the All-Star Game in a big way.
With less than 30 hours remaining in the voting period, Trumbo hit his Major League-leading 23rd homer of the year in Baltimore's 12-6 win over the Padres on Wednesday. Trumbo, in fifth during the last American League update, is nipping at the heels of the Red Sox's Mookie Betts, who is in third place. Lorenzo Cain of the Royals and Toronto's Jose Bautista are also fighting for the final outfield spot with Trumbo.

The Orioles won their seventh straight game on Wednesday and were sparked by Trumbo. He followed his fourth-inning home run with a two-run double in the ninth, increasing his RBI total to 60.
"When you are winning, everything is that much better," said Trumbo, who gave the O's their record-tying 55th homer in June with his fourth-inning blast. "This in particular. It's product of a couple guys getting real hot real quick and some other guys sustaining what we've been doing."
Trumbo is already having a career year and has surpassed his home run total from all of 2015 in his first three months with Baltimore.
