Report: Wieters injures left arm in 'household accident'

Free-agent catcher expected to be ready for Spring Training

BALTIMORE -- Free agent hurt his non-throwing arm in a "household accident" earlier this offseason, though it isn't expected to affect the catcher's readiness for Spring Training.
Wieters, who has spent his entire career as an Oriole, injured his left forearm and needed stitches, according to a report from Baltimore Baseball on Tuesday.
Widely considered the best free-agent catching option on the market, Wieters did not receive a qualifying offer from Baltimore after accepting the one-year qualifier last offseason.
The 30-year-old switch-hitter is reportedly expected to begin baseball activities in January. Wieters batted .243 with 17 homers and 66 RBIs in 124 games for the Orioles in 2016.
