Big 5-0-0: Alonso's consecutive games played streak reaches milestone

hit No. 500 over the weekend.

No, we're not talking about home runs; he still needs 217 homers to get to 500 in that category. We're talking about consecutive games played.

The Orioles' game on Saturday against the Nationals was Alonso's 500th consecutive game played. He's now at 501 after Sunday's loss to Washington.

Alonso concluded his Mets career by playing in each of the team's 416 games from July 18, 2023, through Sept. 28, 2025. He set the franchise record for most consecutive games played in the process.

After signing a five-year deal with Baltimore during the offseason, Alonso has been a part of each of the O's first 85 games this year.

Now, when it comes to Orioles and consecutive games played streaks, Alonso has a long (long, long, long, long) way to go to catch their franchise leader. Every active player is miles behind Cal Ripken Jr. The Braves' is the only other player with a current streak longer than 500 games, and he's at 864. In other words, the 32-year-old Olson needs another 10-plus seasons to get into Cal's neighborhood.

But 500 consecutive games is still a pretty neat feat. And as Alonso has settled in with his new team, he has looked more and more like the power hitter he has been since breaking into the league in 2019. He hammered his 19th home run of the season on Sunday and is slashing .293/.390/.564 with 11 dingers over his past 36 games.
