BALTIMORE -- Reliever Darren O'Day was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring and righty Mike Wright was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk, the Orioles announced Friday.
Manager Buck Showalter said O'Day suffered the injury while covering first base in Baltimore's 13-9 win over Boston on Wednesday night.
"Covering first base the other night, it grabbed on him," Showalter said. "It wasn't better the next day."
Although the Orioles optioned Wright to Norfolk on Thursday, they are able to recall him within 10 days because he's replacing an injured player.

That means the Orioles can't backdate O'Day's injury to Wednesday, though, so he won't be eligible to return from the DL until June 18. Showalter said he's hopeful that O'Day will require only the minimum 15 days to recover. He was to receive a platelet-rich plasma injection on Friday.
"We felt like it would be 15," Showalter said. "We will see. I'm cautiously optimistic about that."
The 33-year-old setup man has a 3.15 ERA in 22 games this season. An All-Star in 2015, O'Day has struggled recently, allowing four runs -- all on solo homers -- in his past 5 2/3 innings.
Showalter said he isn't sure what role Wright, who allowed six runs in 2 2/3 innings during his start Wednesday for Baltimore, will have. He could be used out of the 'pen, but he is also among the O's options to start Monday's contest against Kansas City.
"Obviously, he can't pitch out of the bullpen tonight because of the number of pitches," Showalter said Friday. "But we are OK down there tonight. We will see what Monday brings."
