O's 2025 Draft duo Irish, Aloy syncing up as bash bros at High-A

For Baltimore, it looks like good things come in pairs.

The Orioles held four of the first 37 picks in the 2025 MLB Draft and used two of their first three selections on catcher/outfielder/first baseman Ike Irish and shortstop Wehiwa Aloy, last year's Golden Spikes Award winner. The duo followed an identical path to begin their respective pro careers, appearing in 20 games at Single-A Delmarva last season before opening this year with High-A Frederick.

On Wednesday, both appeared in their 23rd game of the season and continued to be in lock-step as they each went yard -- for the second time this season -- in Frederick's 11-5 victory over Jersey Shore at Nymeo Field, contributing multihit performances and combining for seven knocks, five runs scored and six RBIs.

It was a career day for Aloy, who delivered his first four-hit game as a pro (finishing 4-for-4) and nine total bases while reaching safely in all five plate appearances. He also drove in four runs. The Arkansas product has been one of the hottest hitters in the Minors since April 21, batting .373 and slugging .725 with five homers and 15 RBIs in that span. The Orioles' No. 5 prospect has hits in each of his past eight games -- including multihit efforts in three of his past four contests. His five extra-base hits and 18 total bases since May 1 paces the High-A level.

Against the BlueClaws, Aloy lined a 1-2 pitch into center for a double in the first inning, worked a six-pitch walk with the bases loaded in the second and crushed his sixth dinger of the season -- a two-run blast -- over the high wall in left-center in the fourth. The 22-year-old legged out an infield knock to the shortstop in the sixth and completed his perfect day at the dish with an RBI two-bagger in the eighth that plated Irish and capped Frederick's scoring.

Irish nearly mirrored Aloy, finishing 3-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base on Wednesday. The Auburn product continued his torrid campaign in which he is slashing .338/.442/.613 with 25 runs scored, 16 RBIs, 14 walks and nine stolen bases.

The 22-year-old turned on a 1-1 fastball in the first inning from right-hander Luke Gabrysh (Phillies) and mashed his fifth dinger of the season. In the following frame, the Orioles' No. 4 prospect worked a six-pitch walk before scampering home two batters later on a two-run double from Victor Figueroa. Irish found the gap in left-center for his seventh two-bagger of the year in the fourth, before finding a hole on the right side of the infield for an RBI knock in the eighth. He then promptly swiped second.

It's the second time this season the duo have posted multihit efforts in the same game. The last time was April 21, when they combined for five hits, seven RBIs and three runs scored.

Irish established himself as one of the most complete offensive players in the 2025 Draft class, slashing .364/.469/.710 and mashing 13 homers in 28 Southeastern Conference games for Auburn. He was one of the most polished bats available when the Orioles took him No. 19 overall and signed him for a full-slot deal of $4.42 million last year.

Aloy was named the 2025 SEC Player of the Year after a dominant campaign at Arkansas. The Orioles selected him No. 31 overall and signed him for full slot value ($3.04 million). He followed that up with a productive pro debut at Single-A Delmarva, logging an .856 OPS.
